The withdrawal agreement concluded between the United Kingdom and the European Union provides a transition period until 31st December 2020. During this period, UK nationals already installed in France or wishing to move in before 31st December 2020, and their families, will maintain their rights as European citizens.

Immigration laws:
If you are a UK national installed in France before 31st December 2020, you are not required to hold a residence permit in the time being. You will have until 1st July 2021 to ask for a residence permit. You will be able to make an online demand, from July 2020.

UK nationals and their family members wishing to move in France after 31st December 2020 should be subject to common laws.

Social security:
Your health cover and the conditions in which you are insured stay the same. European legislation continue to be applicable until 31st December 2020.

If you are affiliated to the French health insurance, you will thus stay affiliated during the transition period.
If you are covered through the European Health Insurance Card, you will also keep on benefitting from your health care with the card.
