Covid-19 – Restrictive measures to reduce contact and travel

In order to help prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus, the President of the French Republic decided measures to reduce contact and travel to the minimum throughout the whole of France, from 12PM on Tuesday 17 March 2020, until at least Wednesday 15 April 2020.

Leaving home and traveling is authorized only for a very limited number of reasons, and upon presentation of a proof of identity and a certificate : the ‘Attestation de déplacement dérogatoire’, dated and signed.

Any violation of these rules will be penalised by a fine of €135 (which may be increased to €375 or €1500).

Beware, some cities may establish a curfew.

Valid reasons for leaving home and getting around

You will find the list of valid reasons on the website of the French Government: 

Beware, short outings for individual physical activity are authorised for 1 hour maximum per day, and within 1 kilometer of your home.

Certificate - ‘Attestation de déplacement dérogatoire’

Please note that the ‘Justificatif de déplacement professionnel’ is to be completed by the employer , in case of regular traveling between home and your workplace.

International flights

As of March 17 2020, external borders of the European space are closed for 30 days.

French citizens and nationals of the European Union, the Schengen Area and the United Kingdom are authorized, along with their spouse and children, to enter the national territory in order to travel to their homes.

Nationals of other countries, meanwhile, cannot enter France in the next 30 days, although there are exceptions for those who possess a residence permit and already reside in France for example..
On the other hand, departures from the national territory are not banned at all.
