Unlike most other countries, income tax in France is not deducted at source (meaning, deducted by your employer). If you receive any French income, you are obliged to fill in a declaration of income form to submit to the tax authorities during before the 20th of May.
For your first declaration, download the form :
Déclaration des revenus 2013

In subsequent years, the declaration form will be sent to you through the post, directly to your residential address. In September, you will receive a tax notification (avis d'imposition) through the post indicating the amount to pay.

If you are a grant-holder (boursier), you should contact the grantawarding authorities to find out if you have to make a declaration.

There exist bilateral agreements signed between France and certain countries in order to avoid double taxation. To find out which are the countries concerned and the details of the agreement, go to the taxation website: www.impots.gouv.fr under the heading documentation' and the sub-heading international'.
