International PhD Students, welcome to Grenoble and welcome to the ComUE UGA !

Tuesday the 21st of November took place the New International PhD Students Welcome evening at the Maison de l’International of Grenoble. Organized by the International Students and Scholars Office - ISSO, and the Doctoral College, in partnership with the City of Grenoble, this event gathered together 55 PhD students, who had been arriving during the past few weeks from all over the world !

Night walks in the old city center of Grenoble and local wine tasting livened this welcoming time dedicated to those new talents. 

The event started by a guided tour visit of Grenoble City-center, to discover the curiosities of the historical heritage, from city-squares to traditional places.
The evening carried on at the Maison de l’International lounges, at the Lesdiguières Mansion, near the city gardens.
 

The guests were first welcomed by greetings. It is Claus Habfast, vice-president in charge of Research, Higher Education, Innovation and International Affairs at Grenoble-Alpes Metropole and councilor at the city of Grenoble who intervened first. Former PhD student at the CERN, the European organization for nuclear research, he underlined the close collaboration between the city of Grenoble and the Communauté Université Grenoble Alpes (ComUE UGA), working for the development of a territory among the richest in France in terms of innovation, research and scientific excellence.

Anne Millet, project manager in International relations for the Doctoral college, along with Élisa Glangeaud, International relations director for the ComUE UGA, reminded everyone about the long welcome tradition of International PhD students at the ComUE, who represent nowadays 45% of the 3 700 enrolled doctoral students. Funding for excellence scholarships, creation of a cross-border research network - Alliance Campus Rhodanien network, large investments for the future planned in the wake of the labeling IDEX, so many strategic development projects of the ComUE UGA testifying of the importance of the challenges of welcoming and integrating these aspiring researchers.
 
 
Full of sharing and encounters, the evening happily ended with oenological workshops and a gourmet buffet, delighting the taste buds of all participants !

The second edition of the integration event for new international PhD students, celebrated the welcome, cultural diversity and human exchanges, serving the creation of scientific knowledge.
