Applying for a residence permit for international students and researchers in Valence

In Valence, international university students, PhD students, researchers and their families benefit from priority residence permit (titre de séjour) application processing.
This program, set up by the International Students & Scholars Office (ISSO Valence) of the Communauté Université Grenoble Alpes, assists you through every step of the process.

Who does this apply to?

Applications for the following residence permits:
  • étudiant ("student")
  • passeport talent-researcher
  • passeport talent-family
  • "recherche d’emploi et création d’entreprise" (job search and setting up a business)
can only be done through the ISSO Valence International Students and Scholars Office. It is the ISSO office that will be in charge of notifying applicants of their appointments set with the Drôme prefecture.

Process

Step 1 - Prepare your application

Two months before your visa/residence permit ends, prepare your application by gathering the required documents:
If you're not sure about one of your documents, don’t hesitate to get help from ISSO Valence. Once your application is complete, group the photocopies together in an A4-size envelope.

Step 2 - Check of your application by ISSO Valence

Drop by ISSO Valence without an appointment during opening hours (see opposite) and have your application checked (originals + photocopies + A4 envelope format).
If it is complete, our office will send your application to the Drôme prefecture for approval.

Step 3 - Appointment

Once approved by the prefecture, ISSO Valence will notify you by email for a set appointment at the Drôme Prefecture in one of the reserved time slots (Thursday afternoons).

For this appointment, you will only need your passport and your current residence permit.
You will then be directly given a proof of residence permit application (récépissé), and the prefecture will start your permit's production process.

Step 4 - Pick up your permit

No less than 4 weeks later, when your residence permit is available, you will receive a letter from the Drôme Prefecture to come it pick up.
To do so, you will need to bring:
  • your passport
  • your current residence permit and 'récépissé'
the amount required in fiscal stamps (timbres fiscaux) (stated in the convocation letter from the prefecture)

The stamps can be purchased online or in a tobacco shop (tabac).
