Specific measures to support affected students and staff

To support its students and staff affected by the war in Ukraine, UGA currently provides:

• Psychological and social support and assistance with administrative procedures (visas, housing, etc.) for Ukrainian students currently studying at UGA. UGA has also taken steps to ensure that students from countries affected by the crisis in Europe have the necessary resources to extend their stay if needed. In this respect, UGA condemns the false information reported by certain media concerning the admission of Russian students in French universities. UGA will not take discriminatory or exclusionary measures against students based on their nationality or country of origin. UGA categorically refuses to subject students to reprisals in response to the policies of the government of their country of origin, of which they themselves may be victim. UGA must remain in the tradition of French universities of welcoming students and offering each and everyone the same conditions of study.
   
• Personalized assistance for UGA students currently on exchange in Russian universities. No UGA student is currently hosted in Ukraine for this academic year.
   
• As part of the PAUSE Program, organized by the Collège de France to welcome scientists in exile, a special appeal for urgent assistance to Ukrainian researchers has been set up thanks to an emergency fund granted by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.
  This emergency financial aid will allow UGA laboratories to host Ukrainian researchers and their families for a period of three months and thus give them the opportunity to prepare, in connection with UGA, an application to the PAUSE program according to normal procedures and criteria on a co-financing basis.

Furthermore, all missions or professional trips of UGA staff to Belarus, Ukraine and Russia have been suspended (following Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs recommendations). Finally, all new bilateral collaboration projects with Russia as well as all upcoming scientific events involving Russia are suspended.

U7+ Alliance university presidents stand in solidarity with Ukraine

Twenty-one universities from eight countries, including UGA, issued a statement on Friday 18 March 2022 condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and called for institutions of higher learning to mobilize in support of victims and others in need.

"The Presidents of the U7+ Alliance member universities stand in solidarity with Ukraine, the Ukrainian people, and Ukrainian universities, and with all those who are affected by the violence currently perpetrated by the Russian government. We are anguished and deeply concerned by this war brought upon Ukraine and by its catastrophic ramifications on so many lives.
As an international Alliance of 50 universities across 20 countries and all continents, so many of our students, faculty, staff, and alumni, as well as our colleagues and fellow universities and institutions around the world, are directly and indirectly impacted by the war. We are watching in sorrow, anger, and shock. We commend the bravery and sacrifice of those in Russia who are currently speaking out  against the war. We reaffirm our commitment to the safety and well-being of Ukrainian and Russian students, faculty, and staff on our campuses.
In response, our universities are mobilizing in support of the victims and those in need, both in and outside of our communities. We are providing student aid, assistance with legal obligations, as well as material and psychological support where possible. Our colleagues are offering insightful and unflinching expert commentary, helping the world understand what is happening.
The U7+ Alliance will continue to defend the fundamental values of peace, truth, democracy, academic freedom, and international cooperation that are the foundation of this Alliance."
