Future international students 2022-2023: your accommodation

On the  June 7, 2022
You have been admitted to study at Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) for the next academic year, and have questions about finding accommodation? You would like to apply for a CROUS accommodation? Here are some tips to help you.

The UGA international web portal

Before you start searching for accommodation, it is important to know more about the context of student accommodation in Grenoble and Valence.
You can find lots of information in the accommodation section on the UGA international web portal, including the different types and costs of accommodation, some advice for your search, a glossary of housing terms, and much more.

Personalized support from the UGA International Students & Scholars Office (ISSO)

In addition to the information given to each student, ISSO offers personalized assistance with accommodation to students doing a mobility within the framework of specific partnerships (Erasmus+ for instance).

If your host faculty or school offered you to benefit from ISSO’s personalized assistance, you will automatically receive an email with your access codes to a dedicated platform, in May or June.
Check your inbox and spam folder regularly.

Applying for CROUS accommodation

If you are neither a Campus France scholarship holder, nor eligible for ISSO's personalized assistance, you can apply for a CROUS accommodation individually.

International students follow a specific procedure, and do not have access to the « Dossier Social Étudiant (DSE) », which applies to French students.

To apply for accommodation in a CROUS student residence, you must follow these two steps:
  1. Create an account on the national student platform
Once your account created, you will receive a confirmation notice mentioning that you are « non-ayant droit DSE » (not eligible for DSE).
  2. As of 12 July 2022, you will be allowed to apply via the CROUS booking request platform.
Priority is given by the CROUS to students on grants from the French government, based on social criteria. Since there is a high demand for CROUS accommodation and the number of places is limited, we highly recommend you to consider in parallel other accommodation options.
