Its partnerships have been strengthened along several lines:
- On a European scale, with universities developing high-level research activity and with which student exchanges and scientific collaborations have been established for many years: University of Oxford, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Universidad de Barcelona, Swansea University..
Université Grenoble Alpes is also a member of the European University “UNITE!” since its creation in July 2019 through the Erasmus+ call of the European Commission.
- At the level of the African continent, with the aim of developing relations with French-speaking universities and strengthening collaborations in research and education: Université Mohamed V, UIR Rabat (Morocco), UCAD and Université Gaston Berger (Senegal).
- At the global level, with renowned universities, for example: in Japan (Tsukuba University), Taiwan (NTU), Brazil (UFRGS, UNESP, and a research agreement with FAPESP), United States (CalTech) and more recently in Canada (McMaster - assisted by a collaboration with MITACS, and two partnerships under discussion with Waterloo and Toronto).

Focus on strategic partnerships

Swansea University

The partnership with Swansea is historic for Grenoble. Numerous co-supervised theses have been successfully defended. The launch of the IDEX project has enabled the scope of the collaboration to be extended with additional resources allocated to joint projects. The launch in 2019 of a "strategic board" made up of scientific representatives from the two universities and the definition of an action plan for the next 5 years makes Swansea a leading partner for UGA.

University of Tsukuba

Tsukuba is one of the leading universities in Japan thanks to its policy of innovation and internationalization. The partnership with UGA started in 2013 and led to the creation of an international alliance "Campus In Campus" bringing together a dozen prestigious universities in different countries. UGA shares with Tsukuba an international laboratory that hosts every year researchers, students and PhD students from the UGA who can use the state-of-the-art equipment installed on site. This flagship partnership is part of a territorial strategy conducted jointly with the city of Grenoble and Grenoble Alpes-Métropole.
Key figures: 7 PhD under joint supervision since 2017, 6 PhD under joint supervision in progress, 10 double degrees, 1 double master, 22 exchange students in 2019.
