On February 11, at the World Trade Center in Grenoble, the Interdisciplinary Institute for Artificial Intelligence (MIAI), led by Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) and labeled "AI Cluster" by the French government, was inaugurated in the presence of all its partners.
The ambition of this new cluster is to establish an internationally renowned institute in Grenoble focused on embedded, interactive, and generative AI, serving both humans and the environment. It places a strong emphasis on frugality, reliability, and the goal of informing citizens and policymakers about the challenges of artificial intelligence. The institute aims to build on the excellent results of MIAI, created in 2019, by enhancing research, innovation, and education, with an even stronger international focus on its programs.
Objectives of the MIAI Cluster
Conduct cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence
Offer attractive AI courses for students at all levels and professionals
Support AI innovation and develop AI in large companies, SMEs, and startups
Inform and interact with citizens on all aspects of AI
An Institute Supported by a Consortium of 12 Partners
As one of the winners of the "AI Cluster" call for expressions of interest, along with eight other national projects, the MIAI Cluster is the only center of excellence in AI research and education labeled in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It is supported by an extended consortium that includes UGA and its component institutions, Grenoble INP - UGA, Sciences Po Grenoble - UGA, ENSAG - UGA, as well as CEA, CNRS, Inria, Inserm, CHU Grenoble Alpes, GEM, Université Savoie Mont Blanc, and Université Clermont Auvergne.
Together, these partners represent a critical mass of more than 50 laboratories and a total of over 500 technical and scientific personnel in core AI fields, along with more than 180 experts in key application areas: environment and energy, healthcare, Industry 4.0, AI, and education.
To achieve its objectives in research, education, and innovation, the MIAI Cluster benefits from a €70 million grant out of the €360 million allocated to the AI Cluster program of France 2030, distributed over five years among the nine selected national centers of excellence.
