International professional associations

Aiming to pool expertise and experience in the field of education at an international level, professional associations form an integral part of the UGA’s strategy to encourage the sharing of practices and boost the development of international cooperation.

These are the associations in which the UGA is involved:

European University Association (EUA)
The EUA represents more than 800 universities and national rectors’ conferences in 48 European countries. It plays a crucial role in the Bologna Process and in influencing EU policies on higher education, research and innovation.

European Association for International Education (EAIE)
The EAIE is a member-led, non-profit organization founded in 1989 to support players who are actively involved in the internationalization of their institutions. It is a European center for expertise, networking and resources in the field of higher education.

NAFSA, Association of International Educators
Bringing together international players in higher education, NAFSA is a global non-profit organization dedicated to international education and exchanges in all their facets. The annual NAFSA conference brings in nearly 10,000 participants representing higher education institutions from all over the world.

International Association of Universities (IAU)
Founded in 1950, under the auspices of UNESCO, the IAU serves the global higher education community through the provision of advisory services, peer-to-peer learning, expertise development & trends analysis, publications, knowledge-sharing events, and global advocacy.

FAUBAI, Brazilian Association for International Education
FAUBAI, founded in 1988, brings together managers who are in charge of international relations and promotes their integration and training through seminars, workshops and regional and national meetings. FAUBAI also showcases the diversity and potential of Brazilian higher education institutions together with funding agencies, diplomatic missions, and international programs and organizations.

Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA)
The AIEA, founded in 1982, is an organization that equips leaders to shape the future of higher education in a global context. Guided by respect for dignity, integrity, and professionalism, the AIEA’s members strive to advance the internationalization of higher education and to make meaningful contributions to society.

Observatory Magna-Charta Universitatum
A collaboration of rectors, presidents and vice-chancellors, this association carries on activities including to ensure the integrity of intellectual and scientific work in Institutions and society, thus reinforcing trust in relationship between universities and their communities, be they local, regional, national or global.
