You have been admitted to study at Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) for the next academic year, and have questions about finding accommodation? You would like to apply for a CROUS accommodation? Here are some tips to help you.
Please note
The information given below does not concern mobility students who already benefited from ISSO’s assistance through the accommodation platform.

Applying for CROUS accommodation

Housing managed by the CROUS is intended primarily for French government “social grant holders”, as part of a process known as the "Dossier Social Étudiant (DSE)". An initial allocation phase is reserved for these students.
If there are still rooms available after this first phase, they are open to all students, including international students, in the so-called “phase complémentaire”.
This “Phase complémentaire” started on July 15, 2024.

To apply for CROUS housing, please follow the two steps below:
  • Create an account on the CROUS’ national student platform, MesServices.étudiant :
    www.messervices.etudiant.gouv.fr/envole/enregistrement
Once your account is created, you will be informed that “Your situation does not allow you to apply for a scholarship based on social criteria”. Simply ignore it.
  • You will then be allowed to apply for accommodation on MesServices.étudiant > Finding accommodation.

Important
There is a high demand for CROUS accommodation and the number of places for international students is limited. If you receive an offer, we therefore advise you to accept it, even if the accommodation does not meet your expectations. We also highly recommend that you consider other accommodation options, in the event that the CROUS does not offer you accommodation.

The UGA International web portal

Before you start searching for accommodation outside of CROUS, it is important to know more about the context of student accommodation in Grenoble and Valence.
You can find lots of information in the accommodation section on the UGA international web portal, including the different types and costs of accommodation, some advice for your search, a glossary of housing terms, and much more.
Proof of accommodation for the visa application
If you need to apply for a visa to study in France, you will need to show proof of accommodation when you apply. Proof of temporary accommodation (hotel, youth hostel) reservation can be used.
Refer to the list of documents provided by the French consulate in your country of residence for more information.
