2nd EU-Japan Digital Foundations Network Symposium
SymposiumResearch, Partnerships, International
June 25, 2026 - June 26, 2026Saint-Martin-d'Hères - Domaine universitaire
Building on the success of the last inaugural Tokyo summit, Université Grenoble Alpes and University of Tsukuba bring together researchers, institutions, and industry partners from Europe and Japan in Brussels on 25 and 26 June 2026, around four key themes: semiconductors, artificial intelligence, quantum technology, and sustainability
This joint initiative co-organized by Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) and University of Tsukuba (UT) aims to strengthen strategic cooperation between the European Union and Japan in digital foundation technologies, fostering innovation, economic security, and talent development across academia, industry, and government stakeholders.
The two-day program combines plenary sessions, parallel scientific tracks, a matching session for new collaborative projects, EU funding opportunities presentation and network meetings.
Particular emphasis will be placed on:
• Semiconductors
• Artificial intelligence (AI) and computation
• Quantum technology
• Sustainability and green digital practices.
The symposium brings together a broad ecosystem of research organizations, universities, and industry players from both sides of the partnership. Current network members include CEA, CNRS, Inria, and IMEC from Europe, and AIST, Tohoku University, and the Institute of Science Tokyo from Japan. The symposium also welcomes invited institutions such as Fraunhofer and RIKEN, alongside industry partners such as IBM Japan and STMicroelectronics.
